100% Sale. For you and your home.
August is a super busy month. In honour of Independence Day
[and my birthday, I think], the month is full of Sales. People run all over,
buying things. And then they gift them and that starts another bout of running
around – to return/ re gift things. A lot of fuel/internet time is spent and
great fun is had by all.
In August, I also run around. Stealing saplings from Delhi’s
many parks, that start sprouting just after rains, taking cuttings from friends/relatives-
all of who are avid gardeners, and picking up free plants from Government
Nurseries. Then I get to see them grow, flower, fruit and give me lots of
oxygen and happiness.
Also for free, I get birds (check out my ‘birds’ album –
all of those are clicked from my balcony), butterflies and very pretty bees. And
I like to believe that the increased oxygen, fresh herbs are doing my skin
wonders!! (HEY, I haven’t used a cosmetic product ever so hold back those
comments…)
A eureka moment happened very recently when I visited a
person’s house – full of very expensive decorative items. Person was also
covered in expensive decorative items. Neither person nor house looked nice.
Then I reflected on the number of times my house had received compliments for
being ‘super pretty’. And realised it’s just because of all my plant friends.
Who hang around in different corners and brighten them up. That’s it. Interior
decoration cost – a little over Rs 0. Return on investment – 104254566699 times
over (there is scientific calculation of ROI on planting a tree – which might
give you a better figure if THAT’s what stopping you…).
So before the frenzied Diwali shopping takes you over and
the malls/websites beckon you with their never-ending sale, do your
friend/relative a favour. Gift her a plant to make her house pretty. And also
her. (You can, however, buy pretty planters on Sale).
